Zheng is a first-year PhD in the Department of Materials at Imperial College London under the supervision of Professor Stephen Skinner. His goal is to mitigate the degradation issue in long term high current density performance of SOEC. His research focuses on building high oxygen partial pressure testing systems and test the performance change of well known electrode and electrolyte materials under different oxygen partial pressure. He employs isotopic exchange depth profiling method and Iodometric titration method to examine the change in tracer diffusion coefficient and oxygen stoichiometry of material. His work also explores the behaviour difference between oxygen vacancy materials and interstitial oxygen conducting materials. He is also a road bike cyclist and ice skater outside the lab.
